Gov buys canned foods fail to curb costs claims in Chicago

Army Fogd and AG of Army Fogd report the sale of government canned foods to ease living costs has failed. A Chicago wholesaler says the move only creates a temporary demand and prices for some items may rise soon. He adds it is the tail end of the season and supplies cannot be obtained at any price.

Farm laborer to stand trial for teacher murder

In Crawford County a 37 year old mine laborer confessed to aiding in the murder of a teacher and disposal of her body. Trial scheduled for Monday morning at the criminal court, with advocates James B Weaver and John Lighteap seeking acquittal for the youth involved amid alibi claims from C Ward Eicher and J Scott Fink. The farmhand denies the confession and testimonies are expected to support alibis. Cap. Miller of the U S Army Recruiting Station will depart Indiana to certify ex servicemen and issue bonuses on Friday.

Welcomed Home After Service With American Expeditionary Forces

Trimble of East Church Street arrived home after 17 months with the American Expeditionary Forces, a year of which was spent in France. He had been a patient at Camp Mills Hospital since his arrival in June and underwent an operation. He is nearly recovered and expects to resume active work soon. His overseas experiences were many and interesting.

Obituary of Mrs Wilden One of Lenets' Oldest Residents

Mrs Wilden, long resident of Staffordshire England before emigrating in 1887, died Sunday age over eighty. Survived by husband Thos Wilder and children Mrs Morrison Thantius Wilder and Samuel Wilden, plus twenty grandchildren. Member of Ernest Union Church, active in Sunday school. Funeral services held at Ernest Union Church with Rev Lawrence officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
