Indiana Joint School Board calls a special meeting to address severe crowding at Indiana Joint High School. A tentative agenda is prepared by a committee led by Merle Craig as chairman. Grand jury charged Hoffa with extortion from grocers, later reduced to a misdemeanor. Kennedy pressed Hoffa who retorted, then Hoffa said he returned about 7.50. Hoffa, age 44, sat for senators, reserved right to refuse questions outside scope, and pledged to tell truth under oath. He arrived amid photographers and wore a brown suit, with his allies watching.

Vincent L. Gigante, 29, a pudgy ex boxer and small time gambler, faces felony court arraignment on attempted murder for the May 2 shooting of racketeer Frank Costello. He surrendered willingly and was held overnight after being described by police as a likely suspect. Costello, 67, suffered a superficial head wound. witnesses’ identification status was not released.
Uniontown report: Continental No. 2 school burned yesterday causing about 4000 dollars in damage. Five miles west of Uniontown, 50 volunteer firefighters fought the blaze. Harold McCormick of Collier, 28, suffered a severe wrist laceration while aiding. Officials had planned to transfer pupils to another school months ago. A stock market note defines a Bull in Wall Street.
Col J W McCurdy of the Air Force evaluation team reported Simons reached about 100000 feet over Detroit Lakes Fergus Falls Minnesota during a 24 hour balloon mission. The previous record was 96000 feet set by Capt Joseph Kittinger in June. Descent timing depends on weather and Simons' alertness with hourly instrument readings required. The exact landing point cannot be predicted.
Police hunt for a man who robbed a West Penn Power branch in Butler. He held two female clerks at gunpoint, escaped with cash ranging from eighty to nine hundred dollars, and warned them not to call police for five minutes.
Obituary notices report the death of Mrs Adda May Wassam 85 at her daughter’s home in Clymer with services to be held August 21 at 2 PM at Cockport Methodist Cemetery.
