Promotion for Lieut Alexander Tait in the Army
The War Department announced the promotion of Alexander Tait from Second to First Lieutenant. He is the right step-son and son of Major and Mrs. Charles C. McLain of East Pike. Tait joined the service May 25, 1942, and earned his commission December 8, 1942 after training at Fort Benning. He was recently ordered to Camp McCall, North Carolina. Mrs. Tait, formerly Eunice Uber, is visiting her parents and plans to accompany her husband back to Camp McCall after a short leave.

Curtis Elkin, prominent banker and business man, died at 442 South Seventh Street at 9:30 p m Tuesday. Born June 13 1887 in Porter township Jefferson County, he promoted financial and business welfare in this county and elsewhere. He served as secretary to Jonathan N Langham in Congress, scouted oil prospects in Oklahoma Wyoming and Utah, led Indiana Normal Business School, and organized several local banks including Rossiter, Elderton and Timblin National Bank. He was president of Elderton State Bank and headed Homer City State Bank until ill health led to retirement. Miracle Crew Heroic Bomb Run Over Kassel Mission
Second Lieutenant Andrew W. Miracle of Loyal Kentucky skippered the Flying Fortress Gil the Miracle Tribe returning from a Kassel raid. Eisenhower says Allied forces ready to strike any minute
Gen Eisenhower announced that American 7th Army and British 8th Army are ready to go at any minute as Sicily battles tally enemy losses at 167 000 killed wounded and prisoners through August 10.
