Walter King Kovaz known as Jasper the Jerk blends danger and comedy in a miniature car thrill show. He keeps to the motorized stunt path near Hell Drivers, guiding fans through near misses and even saving a driver from fire with his quick thinking and courage.
The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis urged its 3 100 chapters to surrender all surplus polio funds to support the national program. Basil OConnor thanked Americans for contributing 52 511 185 68 to the 1955 March of Dimes but noted a shortfall of about 12 900 000, despite efforts. He appealed for chapter leaders to act with urgency to help the cause. Jasper, known as the Clown Prince of thrills, will appear at the Indiana County Fair as Hell Drivers perform next week.
Four General Motors dealers Edwards Motor Indiana Motors Galbreath Motor and Colonial Motors will sponsor the Previews of Progress exhibit at the Indiana County Fair beginning August 22. The lineup covers Chevrolet Buick Pontiac and Oldsmobile Cadillac through their local franchises.
The Lucky Dogs troupe of more than 100 canines trains and races for a fair presentation inspired by Florida tracks. Each dog is fed weighed daily, water and vitamins administered by a veterinarian, and betting is not allowed. The profit supports polio relief efforts and March of Dimes chapters nationwide.
National Foundation official said $10 million could be redirected to help 1,274 needy chapters if surpluses are turned in. The move follows a $3 million cut in Salk vaccine costs and a trustees resolution to seek surplus rather than run an emergency march.
