Four Cambria county men electrocuted at Rockview Penitentiary

Aug 17 in Bellefonte Pennsylvan ia four Cambria county men were executed for the July 14 1928 murder of Louis Hoffman during an alleged hijacking attempt. The executions marked the first quadruple sentence in the state in over four years with Carl Crow Joseph Parsi Frank Cantilla and Frank Powell of whom Parsi pleaded guilty The scene included a showing of The Last Parade and a somber tone as the condemned faced dawn with no prisoner demonstrations.

Murder Suspects Taken In Johnstown

Johnstown Aug 17 James Missentigia was arrested while en route to New York and jailed on a suspicion charge. Police say he may be linked to the Aug 7 murder of Norman Fox near Seward, whose body was placed on Pennsylvania Railroad tracks to fake a passing train strike.

Young People's Picnic in Indiana County on Aug 19

A round up of county youths under the Indiana County Sabbath School Association is set for Paly Grounds Indiana on Wednesday August 19. The program starts at 3:00 pm with games led by J W Everett Y M C A general secretary. A 6:00 pm picnic supper follows with a devotional program and speaker. A campfire and songs led by Ralph Harrison will close the day urging every county youth to attend.

Nine Injured One Critically In Highway Crash Near Sykesville

Nine people were injured in a head on crash near Sykesville on the highway last evening. Mrs. Sprankle and Albert Sprankle of Indiana were among the injured, with the latter having a compound fracture of the left arm and critical condition. The accident involved a Plymouth sedan and a Pontiac coupe, and victims were taken to Punxsutawney Hospital by passing motorists.

Martial law ordered halt of East Texas oil wells

Brigadier General Wolters served formal shutdown orders to all East Texas oil and gas wells as Governor Sterling proclaimed martial law to force crude prices upward.
