Mother Changes Her Mind- Child Will Undergo Surgery

In Chicago a mother, Mrs Irede Lamphere, aged 21, reversed her opposition to a delicate bladder repair for her 21 month old daughter Pamela. Doctors had warned only a one in 100 chance of survival. a court ordered consultation with four Chicago medical schools. Other mothers with similar recoveries encouraged the change despite earlier estrangement from her husband Fred.

Soldier's Wife Ordered to Stop Hitchhiking

OLD ORCHARD LEACH, May Aug. 16. Mrs Marjorie Furio would not thumb rides to San Francisco or elsewhere. Her husband Cpl Tony Furio telephoned to say don’t move, and the 28-year-old blonde agreed to stay. Traveling from Bangor with 71 months old Tony Jr in her arms, the boy grew sick and the woman paused here with a friend.

A former Mich prison­er held captive by Micmac Indians for six years, he escaped and returned to Van Buren to discover his family killed and cabin seized. Sailor to be sent to El Paso amid family plans

Furio tries to reassure his wife he is not heading overseas but to Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. The San Francisco Chronicle and Old Orchard Beach police arranged a phone call last night. Corporal Lenny told his wife to stay put while he departs for Maine on Wednesday and plans to take her and their son Tony to El Paso.

Lutherans Show Gain In Membership Across North America

United Lutheran Church in America reports 41,144 new members in the last year, lifting total to 1,880,828 after an “Xray” survey of about 4,000 congregations in the United States and Canada. About 31 percent of additions were unchurched previously, pastor Reinartz notes.

Three Hurt When Freights Crash in Crawfordsville

In Crawfordsville Indiana on August 14 two locomotives of a double header freights collided. Three crew members were injured as the freight wreck disrupted service near the yard. Local authorities investigated the crash and the cause was being reviewed by railroad officials.

Tragic Farmhouse Fire Claims Anderson Family

Police report in Chatham County says Mrs. Marion Anderson shot herself in her bedroom. Coroner Harold Smith notes the death occurred Wednesday. friends found her Saturday night. Son Tommy guarded his mother with a fly swatter while consuming frozen food. The family’s husband and other son from Pan American were unable to escape the blaze that spread from the kitchen. Greeks Push Front Near Albanian Border Blocs

Greeks gain ground near the Grammos Mountains as the army advances about two miles toward the guerrilla positions along the Albanian border.
