California police probe the death of Kenneth Dissell aged 51 of Coal Center after a Tuesday discovery along railroad tracks near Washington County. He had a fractured skull.
Samuel Harrison, 26, of Pittsburgh, is in custody on a manslaughter charge. Police say Harrison backed a dump truck Tuesday and accidentally crushed to death Arthur Shuler, 44, also of Pittsburgh.
Senate vote of 69 to 20 backed overriding President Eisenhower with a Maine shipyard wage raise measure, while Senator Margaret Chase Smith earned wide credit. The House must approve by two thirds. education funding for scholarships loans and science training also outlined. Senate sped through three tax bills, including an excise tax revision and a technical revision with small business relief and pension tax cuts. A large supplemental funding bill totaling over 3.5 billion dollars headed to Senate action, including nearly 2.7 billion for the Atomic Energy Commission.
The National Safety Council says Pittsburgh needs 400 more uniformed policemen to match similar cities in traffic handling. At a Western Pennsylvania Safety Council luncheon the council also urged 100 more clerks, better street lighting, more center lane markings and crosswalks.
Gromyko outlines a resolution demanding the withdrawal of Western forces from Lebanon and Jordan. The plan expands UN observers in Lebanon and creates a similar force for Jordan to monitor border areas, aiming to meet Western conditions while not fully satisfied by all sides.

AP reports the Roman Catholic Church creates the Miami Diocese from 16 southern counties formerly in the Diocese of St Augustine. The Most Rev Coleman F Carroll 53 auxiliary bishop of Pittsburgh will lead as bishop with St Marys Church in Miami as cathedral. Pope Pius XII announced the move through Archbishop Amleto Cicognani apostolic delegate. Carroll is a Pennsylvania native raised to the episcopacy in 1953 after studies at Duquesne University and St Vincent Seminary.
Six days after the Nautilus success the Skate continued under ice explorations. The 265 foot Skate left New London Connecticut July 20 entering from the Atlantic heading toward the polar region. Navy officials kept the military significance quiet while Eisenhower cited the Nautilus as a step toward a commercial seaway. Senators Bush and Anderson noted the broader strategic value of the transpolar voyages.
Admiral Anderson outlined a one two punch from nuclear subs expanding U S reach with undetectable patrols and missiles. The United States builds 33 atomic subs with Skate commanded by Cmdr James F Calvert and Arctic voyage crews of 10 officers 87 enlisted and 9 civilians. Skate to return to New London late this month after a polar trip noted by Eisenhower during a Philadelphia to New York flight.
