New York Aug 13 1937 The German airliner Brandenburg lifted from Floyd Bennett field at 8 02 am EST for a Berlin return flight the 18th trans Atlantic night of the summer Captain Alfred Henke said the ship would fly south of the great circle and land in Germany in about twenty hours with about 1000 spectators watching. The four motor monoplane carried 2370 gallons of gasoline and would follow a route about 1000 kilometers longer than the Berlin New York leg.

Joseph Unterreiner a 28 year old 250 pound lie down striker was in Presbyterian Hospital for seven days of observation. He was brought from Turtle Creek Municipal Building after lying in the council chamber for five days protesting the boroughs refusal to provide medical aid following a ten year old manhole accident that caused a spinal injury and left him unable to walk. He won a 17000 verdict later set aside by an Appellate Court and the borough contends it cannot provide medical aid.
