Thomas Pealer family visited Mrs Pealer’s aunt Mrs W C Caldwell in New Bethlehem. W P Wilson of Washington visited Gazette Office. Mack Holstein and Day Myers rode to Conneaut Lake for the day. John Hamlin returned from a east honeymoon. Jake Repine near Smicksburg was Indiana business visitor. William Anderbrand of Burrell township was a Sunday Indiana visitor. Harvey Snyder, ex coal operator, now with Pittsburgh Coal Company, was Indiana business visitor.
New York authorities disclosed a forgery ring linked to the mysterious scratcher who victimized a wealthy depositor and the Manufacturers Trust Company. Seven forged checks triggered the investigation, showing withdrawals totaling $104,000 from a Chelsea Exchange Bank account opened with a forged signature. The suspect, believed to be the same individual bankrolling other felonies, used copied signatures to access funds over the last two weeks of July.
Pittsburgh August reports from the F W Dodge Corporation show July contract activity in Western Pennsylvania at 11,998,400, down 36 percent from June and 84 percent from July 1927. Mr and Mrs Blair Park and sons Victor Glenn and Mr and Mrs Frank Pfeffer returned home from a short visit to Conneaut Lake. Mr and Mrs George Kinter and Mr and Mrs Jack Downs of Pittsburgh were automobile visitors to Indiana yesterday.
