inform the general public of the Value of Indiana State Teachers College to the community of Indiana and Indiana County The three articles will discuss the colleges importance to the district 1 in terms of dollars and cents 2 in terms of growth and people and 3 in terms of better living Todays article will deal with the dol lars and cents contribu tions to the communitys economic life Tomor rows story will tell of the projected growth which college officials expect within the next ten years and how that growth is expected to ef fect Indiana and Indiana County The final article in the series scheduled for publication on Thurs day will be designed to tell of the colleges cul tural spiritual and social contributions to the com By BILL HASTINGS Gazette NeWs Editor Sfr AND C5ENTS Indian State Teachers College today easily appears as an economy oasis for Indiana County This is not intended to detract from the vital con tributions of the countys growing industrial arms it is sunply a matter of facts and figures The college has swelled in size with such rapidity in recent years that front page news stories on increased enrollment and new construction have almost entered the stage or monotonous regularity Even in view of the daytoday news accounts of the the ful1 imPact of the institutions worth to the county in dollars and cents has never been brought to fore in one fell swoop THE DOLLARS AND CENTS not qnly includes the payroll and budget but also a myriad of hidden benefits that lend to the communitys healthy econo mical climate i the conservative estimate that 2 800 students next year will drop in allowances into the coffers of the county This represents the money students spend on such incidentals as drug store supplies restaurant meals haircuts shoe repairs magazines and newspapers clothing and countless other items Also hidden from the publics eye are the approxi mate 300 studentowned automobiles that result in an additional flow of money into
