Indicted meat packer chief linked to $20 million fraud
A 105 count federal indictment accuses American Beef Packers Inc and its Omaha unit Beefland International of conspiring to defraud livestock raisers in 13 states of more than 20 million dollars. Frank R. West and Robert E. Lee are named. Carlson charged in a separate case for allegedly bribing federal meat graders. The scheme allegedly began in 1974 and led to bankruptcy in 1977 with claims involving nearly 900 farmers across states including Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and California.

One Fatal Included In Rash Of Mishaps

State police at the Indiana station investigate a reported burglary Thursday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Running Brook Apartments on Ben Franklin Road. A $200 colored television was taken from an apartment occupied by Robert D. Kendle.
