Newton Allen a 57 year old former director of the Hoxsey Cancer Clinic in Portage died after a two car crash on rain slick Route 22 near Blairsville. He died at Latrobe Hospital at 4 15 am. Two others were injured: Mike Hefferman 18 and Muriel Allen 59. Hefferman’s car struck Allen’s broadside during a skid while attempting to pass in wet conditions. Damages totaled about 3400 dollars.

Route 422 Truck Crash Blocks Eastbound Lane
State Police report an Akron Ohio driver Pat Junior Smith left Route 422 two miles east of Indiana after a tractor trailer jackknifed and overturned on a hill. The vehicle sustained about 1800 in damage and 20000 pounds of hardware freight were moved to a second truck. The driver suffered no injuries. The 5:30 am crash also prompted a trailing trailer to skid, strike the guard rail and bank, with minor initial damage.
