Police continue investigations into a hit run on Philadelphia Street.

Man Draws Five Life Sentences
Donald Chism, 39, was sentenced by Erie County Judge Edward Carney to five consecutive life terms for the murder of his wife Athena, their three children, and his wife's uncle Paul Tollis in January 1975. The trial was moved to Lycoming County for publicity. His attorneys plan an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Fire damages Beyer Avenue Apartment in Punxsutawney
Fire damaged a Punxsutawney apartment complex on Beyer Avenue with total losses estimated at 2750 dollars. Rose Hess’s apartment 36 sustained 2000 dollars in property damage and 750 dollars to the contents. Nine DuBois men charged in 16 area arsons

Bomber Crash Probe Gets Underway
Investigators examined the remains of a converted 1940s bomber that plowed into homes on Chicago’s Southwest Side killing both pilots and several residents. The plane took off from Midway Airport, stalled, and struck a field before crashing into a house, with witnesses describing a billowing smoke trail and a failed propeller. Elsie Rabideau died at Cook County Hospital from massive chest and head injuries, as police recovered bodies and assessed damage across the wreckage. Kenneth Schons, 52, of Astington Heights, a veteran pilot, was identified among the deceased. John Worley, 47, a Medina Ohio instructor, was listed as aboard.

Miners Strike Idles 4700 In Eight State Area
An eight state wildcat strike has idled about 4700 miners in Armstrong and Cambria Counties and surrounding areas.
