Pilot Project For Shannock Boys At Cook's Forest Park
A pilot outdoor camping program at Cook's Forest State Park for 11 fifth graders from Shannock Valley Elementary, funded by ESEA Title I, aims to expose disadvantaged youths to life in the outdoors. Camp staff and rangers guided tent setup, safety lessons, and activities like hiking, swimming, and cooking, with responsibilities assigned to each participant and emphasis on cooperation and democratic camp life. Participants include Mike Semonovich, Jerry Wingard, Peter Tate, Greg Kashur, and others.
