Strike Threat Averted at PRR as Board Chosen
Washington AP reports a threatened PRR strike was avoided after the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen agreed to seek a special adjustment board. The National Mediation Board noted the 5 a.m. Thursday strike deadline was withdrawn and the board will issue a binding decision under the Railway Labor Act. Josephine Man Jailed Here For Furnishing Alcohol
Wendell Palmer from Josephine was sentenced by Judge Edwin M Clark on Tuesday afternoon for furnishing intoxicating beverages to a minor. Palmer received 60 days in the Indiana County Jail in default of costs and a $100 fine. He reportedly pleaded guilty June 14 to an incident dated November 25, 1959 in Center Two.

19 Aboard Vehicle From Swim Party Kills 3 Boys
A truck returning 19 boys from a Littlestown church school swim party ran off a rural road in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. The vehicle zigzagged and dumped the riders from the bed. Eisenhower to actively campaign in GOP bid
President Eisenhower plans an active role in promoting the Republican ticket in the 1956 race. He met Monday night with Vice President Nixon and Henry Cabot Lodge at Newport Rhode Island and will reveal campaign plans at an appropriate time. Nixon said the President offered campaign tips but would not detail them. Hagerty indicated the President will participate in traditional political campaigning, with substantial efforts to push Congress on unfinished legislative items. The White House expects Congress to act as Senate resumes and House returns August 15. Eisenhower also golfed at Newport Country Club before taking the day easy.

US rejects all UN Summit call amid disarmament debate
The United States dismissed a Soviet demand for an all-UN disarmament summit as a cynical maneuver while diplomats weighed hopes of high level talks involving President Eisenhower and Khrushchev.
