Phantom Thief Fails In Second Jail Break Try
Lancaster Pennsylvania August 2 11 John Charles Hamilton 22 known as the Phantom Burglar confesses to 56 robberies and again fails a jail escape. In solitary punishment he ripped a vent grill then wriggled through a vent to the yard. He tried to scale the wall with bricks and sticks but the attempt failed. He hid in a coal pile then crawled into a boiler room and was found an hour later. In a prior escape he climbed a tree to the kitchen roof but could not reach the wall.

Deaf Mute Boy Killed by Train Near Corry
In Corry Pennsylvania a 14 year old deaf mute named James Davids was struck from behind by a northbound Pennsylvania railroad train. He was hurled 40 feet down an embankment and died from a fractured skull and neck injuries. Coroner Lawrence Davison noted the injuries as the cause of death. He was vacationing with his parents Mr and Mrs Leon Davids and was a student at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.
