The Supreme Council faces questions about legitimacy and neutrality while two ideas surface. One urges President Harding to have Ambassador Harvey sit in the Council, or act as arbitrator if needed, possibly enabling a rescue of the wartime coalitions. The other suggests Germany and Poland resolve disputes without outside interference, premised on mutual need and a shift toward peaceful diplomacy. Europe historically leans to war. the Americas offer a model of restraint and cooperation.

Welch West Virginia August 2 Sid Hatfield a former Matewan chief of police and central figure in the Matewan killing trial died on the Court House steps. C E Lively a private detective is jailed awaiting verdict as to who fired the shot that killed Hatfield and wounded Ed Chambers amid a tense gathering before Hatfield faced another shooting charge. Witnesses recall friendly greetings turning hostile just before pistol fire rang out.
Mrs. Keller M. Harris of South Street visited Mechanicsburg to visit relatives for a few days. Miss May Getty stays a week with her brother John Getty in Greensburg. George Halverd of Brookville, formerly of Creekside, spent yesterday in Indiana. William Lockhart of Punxsutawhey was a business visitor in town yesterday.
The Gibson clan will hold its ninth annual reunion at Camp Rest-a-While on Saturday September 3. An invitation is extended to all friends and relatives of the family to attend.
