Mrs. Walter Johnson, 35, wife of Washington baseball manager Walter Johnson, died at Georgetown University Hospital after heat exhaustion. Johnson stayed at the bedside. he had refused to join the team in New York. She had returned from a motor trip to Coffeyville, Kansas, with relatives of her husband. Her death followed a period of illness and long tour strain. Her son Walter Johnson Jr. had recently been discharged from the same hospital after injuries from a car accident. Edwin H. Johnson, her father, is Reno mayor and former U.S. representative.
In Pittsburgh an 8 month old girl was found dead with her throat slashed on the kitchen table. The mother Mrs William Prenfica Jr, 84, was arrested as police and Dr H M Gangloff suspected a butcher knife caused the fatal wound.
