Many residents visited relatives in Smethport, Bradford, Indian, and nearby towns while others returned from trips to New York City, Bridge Springs, and Chautauqua. A harvest picnic at Harvest Home is expected to be the largest yet, with multiple locals noted in transit or hosting guests.

A mob of over 100 armed whites hunted and killed more than twenty Black residents near Slocum and Denison in Palestine County. State militia and Texas rangers arrived to restore order as Black families fled the area. Authorities say several suspects are in custody and more warrants will be issued. The killings followed fears of Black plans to burn white property, though no resistance by victims was reported.
San Francisco, Aug 1 Mrs Joseph M Mello wife of a wealthy Brentwood Contra Costa rancher killed her four young children. Chester 14 and the twins five months old were saved after she strangled Namona Lena and the babies with a wash tub. Sheriff Veale found her insane from loneliness. She claimed wealth meant nothing and spoke of six years alone on the ranch.
Helen Hurd has been ill with blood polaaning after stepping on a pin, but she is on the way to recovery. Mrs. Paul Zeigler of Mahaffey and her brother Ray visit their father St. Clair Hurd. Mr. and Mrs. David Gibson and grandson Homer Downey Jr. visited Utah. William Fleming family of Turtle Creek went there due to Mrs. Fleming's mother's illness, Mrs. Jackson States. David Gibson and daughter Junna visited Punxatawney. Howard Wells spent a week in Indiana, returning with Martha Wells. Mrs. Howard McCreary and her daughter visited her father Aaron Braughter last week. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Servey of Mahaffey visited friends here.
Miss Margaret Streams entertained Tuesday July 26 in honor of Miss Moore from Kallysburg. Eighteen local youths attended with games, music, and late refreshments at 11. Several residents were visiting relatives or guests in nearby towns, including Emabel Nichol at Atlantic City and Mrs Edna Valentine in Philadelphia.
Foley Kidney Pills advertised a medicinal product claiming relief for backache headache dizziness nervousness urinary irritation and rheumatism. The ad urged purchase at all grocers and druggists with questionable quality language and odd typography.
John Brinkman aged 85 died of heart failure at his parents home on South Seventh Street. Survived by his parents Mr and Mrs William Brinkman two sisters one brother and two children Katherine and Charisse. Wife deceased. He had lived in Indiana all his life and worked as a driver. Funeral arrangements pending until Wednesday to await a brother’s arrival.
Robert Nesbit Lewis also known as Robert Lewis, a former Indiana resident, died at his Windsor California home on Sunday July 24 from complications of a stroke suffered May 20. The Greensburg Morning Review notes Prof M C Gordon of Indiana State Normal was here, reporting fall enrollment. Also mentioned are Todd Cochran and Grace of Johnatown visiting cousin Madge Lydick, and Dr Ford Craig, relief surgeon for the Pennsylvania railroad, returning to Pittsburg after visiting his mother Mrs Emily Craig of Hope Street. A London smoke reduction proposal is floated using electric power for heating.
