Administration Starts Week Extra Session Work
Harrisburg April 20 The administration opened a one week preparedness push for the special legislative session set to convene next Monday. Governor James called a cabinet meeting for last minute checks on appropriations for relief and to address a projected eight month deficit of 970 million. He returned from Indianapolis after a national radio address urging a Republican program of peace in the 1940 campaign. Voters began registering for the November general election and county commissioners began tallying Tuesday’s primary votes. Various committees planned meetings for tomorrow and Wednesday while unemployment tax deadlines pressed workers, Berks and Allentown milk orders were drafted, and preparations for the legislature’s arrival proceeded. Governor James has one speaking engagement in Berwick for the Am er car and Foundry centennial, and the Pennsylvania chapter of the International Association of Employment Services will hold a two day convention beginning Saturday. The Public Utility Commission sent an examiner to Wilkes-Barre to hear Ehrlich-Newark Trucking’s bid to operate as a common carrier across several counties.
