Secretary Henry Wallace called farmers to organize for a retooled Federal Land Bank System and lower mortgage rates. He spoke at a 17 state farmers meeting in St Paul, warning Europe’s war will hit agriculture and urging debt relief and stronger farm programs.

In Washington John L. Lewis urged the National Negro Congress to consider alignment with Labor's Non-partisan League. He demanded that political leaders stand by the unemployed and appealed for Negroes to join the labor movement. A. Philip Randolph noted the Congress represents about 3,000,000 Negroes.

Dean Harvey Andruss acting president announced completion of arrangements for commencement week activities with Alumni Day set for May 25.
April 27 report from New Kensington states Frank Knize, 21, drowned when a boat capsized near Braeburn and his body was recovered at Lock Number 4. His companion, Mrs Cecelia Knia, was rescued by two steel workers after the accident on the river.
The British Broadcasting Corporation mocked German Foreign Minister von Ribbentrop's assertion that Britain planned an invasion. The NBC picked broadcast questioned how advance units could hold proof, noting the German news agency had not explained the evidence.
Wydeline Van Dyke Jones of Columbus Ohio and Bryan Wallace were married in a civil ceremony at Rome Municipal Building on Capitol Hill at noon local time today. Attorney Edward G. Coll, 70, a colorful and prominent member of Allegheny County Bar Association, died early today after weeks of illness. He entered hospital for intestinal complications earlier this month. Coll, who defended in more than 125 murder cases, served as assistant city solicitor and had practiced law for 45 years.
