Nine U.S. Marines and Bermudians Rescued At Sea
A 32 foot fishing boat with nine U. S. Marines and three Bermudians spent two days in rough seas off Bermuda before rescue. An all night search by a Kindley Air Force plane located the boat, one engine out, and a tug was dispatched. The HMS Bigbury Bay later contacted the vessel and ferried everyone to Bermuda for hospital care. Names of the Marines were not released. The rescue defied danger, led by Capt. Richard C. Ashman from Pittsburgh with navigator Capt. Charles J. Ellis spotting the group early this morning.
