Maurice Britt of Fi Smith Arkansas, a former Arkansas University and Detroit Lions football star, earned the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery near Mignano Italy last November. He and eight companions were used as a shield for a German force advancing toward U S lines. Britt killed five Germans and saved his eight companions despite sustaining a chest wound, grenade injuries, and the loss of an arm. he is pictured with Mrs. Britt at Lawson Hospital Atlanta Georgia.

New York April 18 Dr Byron M Stookey declared no medicine or surgery could aid Frances Sabino a week old baby born with a spinal malformation and total paralysis. Frances was flown from Puerto Rico to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for an emergency operation but the doctor said return to her mother is best. Frances arrived with her father Master Sut Angelo Sabino of Riverside and three stewards while her mother Victoria Sabino remains hospitalized in Puerto Rico.
Stalin calls Gen Nikolai Vatutin one of the Red Army’s finest as funeral plans for his Kiev command post are announced. A Moscow broadcast says 24 guns will salute the hero who liberated Kiev last November. Vatutin died Friday after an operation.
