Henry Campbell and a son of about $1,000 clashed over a money dispute as a new bride resisted returning to her husband. They planned to meet in Philadelphia on February 22, 1929. On February 2, Mrs Mowry was found shot and burned near Cranford New Jersey. The crime pointed to Close who allegedly saturated her clothing with gasoline and set it ablaze to erase clues.
After a private talk, the governor said politics were not discussed but observers judged the meeting between Fisher and Brown as signaling deeper implications. Friends of Fisher backed Senator Joseph R. Grundy against Brown's proposed running mate James J. Yonning, hinting at future GOP support for Brown in the governor’s race.

A community effort led by A. O. Rasmussen and J. W. Warner organized by Prof. Robert Learn mobilized students and citizens for planting rhododendron laurel and other plants. Trucks, teams, and materials were supplied to form a lasting memorial at year end 1930.
The Army drill floor proves tight for the event as 28 troops will occupy 28 booths and about 175 Scouts are expected to participate. Plans include decorative building schemes. PittsburghApril 18 Ins Representatives of Pittsburgh Railways Company and the Motormen and Conductors Union were to resume negotiations today to settle a new wage scale. The first agreement was rejected by the employer 1819 to 112. P J McGrath union secretary said talks would continue toward an equitable deal. Women car operators seek a 75 cent per hour increase while one man car operators request a 90 cent raise. Miss Martha L McLain, a teacher in the Akron City Schools, visits her parents Mr and Mrs C C McLain of East Philadelphia Street.
A 21 year old youth claiming to be Jas Maxon, son of an Episcopal bishop, is held for questioning in the death of 73 year old David Paynter at a West End Avenue rooming house. Paynter died from a fractured skull after an argument during which the youth allegedly struck him with a chair while intoxicated. The youth gave a Chattanooga address 005 Oak Street as his father’s. Bishop James M Maxom of the Episcopal Church expressed shock when told the identity claim, noting the son had written he planned to move nearer Columbia University where he studies at the Columbia School of Journalism.
In dense fog off Cape May two ships the freighter Sartartia and the F. J. Luckenbach collided east of Cape May causing damage but both ships limped to port under their own power. A Coast Guard cutter rushed to rescue a badly injured seaman and take him to Lawrencetown Hospital with a skull fracture and crushed ribs. Hospital staff could not learn his name.
Washington April 18 One of the Mexicans who kidnapped Leonard B Cassidy of Peabody Massachusetts has been killed by Mexican soldiers. His colleagues are being pursued. Leonard Dawson African Consul General at Vera Cruz cables the State Department. Cassidy was reported safe and unharmed in Tuxtepec across the border from Vera Cruz. He was kidnapped by Mexicans discharged from United Fruit Co Cassidy is also an employee of the company.
Jakab Blazkovac alias Schultz a partner of Philip Fazio a wild cat brewer was held in the county jail as a material witness to a felony in connection with the murder of 28 year old William Gregory a bear-runner. He was arrested two days ago for questioning and has largely maintained his story though altered slightly according to County Detective Chief George W. Murrin.
Pittsburgh April 18 MNS Nick Vechio 28 who walked from Presbyterian Hospital after burns on face and body is being sought for questioning about the blast and fire that spread to five persons fleeing the street Police say Vechio told them an explosion occurred when he struck a match in his apartment on the first floor of a two story frame dwelling Firemen later found two five gallon cans of gasoline in the basement where they believe the fire originated Loss estimated at 1600.
In Pittsburgh on April 18 the Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce board voted unanimously to back Western Pennsylvania coal interests in the Interstate Commerce Commission case over lake cargo rates. The Western Pennsylvania Traffic Bureau has filed a complaint with the ICC for hearing.
