Missionary and family rescued after nine days adrift
J W Miller a Jacksonville missionary his wife nine children and a negro servant were forced to drift for nine days in a small motor launch in the Caribbean Sea after running out of gasoline on April 6. Exhausted from starvation and exposure they were spotted by the Cuban gunboat Patria three miles off Colon breakwater and towed to shore in an act of rescue.

Pittsburgh April 16 Arthur Thompson 40 of Carrick won a new trial on a morality charge after Visiting Judge J R McKendrick discharged juror Mrs Wiltsner for bias. A sealed verdict had been opened earlier but a poll showed the juror felt forced into agreeing. The court then retired the panel to seek a unanimous verdict but failed and discharged the juror.
