Steel Corp Chief Predicts 1929 Gross Income At 1.6 Billion
Hoboken April 16 James A Farrell president of United States Steel Corp told stockholders the company is operating at 96 percent of capacity with production at 25 million tons annually and expects total 1929 gross income near 1.6 billion. He cited ample liquid funds for raw materials and noted 150 laboratories with 2,000 researchers. Stockholders approved a recapitalization plan increasing common shares to 42.5 million and using proceeds to retire 269 million in bonds. Directors elected include George F Baker Jr and Junius Morgan. Over 5.5 million common shares and 2.78 million preferred were represented. The meeting was chaired by Myron Taylor.
