Washington April 15 Seventeen years after the outbreak World War financing today was relegated to the history books by Sister Secretary Morgenthau in a radio speech urging remaining 44 percent Fourth Liberty Bonds be redeemed by October 16. She said a broken log jam will let money flow into commerce and industry as interest rates ease. About $1.4 billion of the Fourth Liberty Bonds will be retired by October, with holders offered to exchange for other government securities in coming months. About $1.93 billion in the First Liberty loan has been called for June 15. Refunds may be offered after April 21. First Liberties not refunded will be paid cash June 15.

State highway funds warned risk collapse of maintenance
Harrisburg April 15 Secretary of Highways Warren Van Dyke warned that a further transfer of motor fund money could imperil Pennsylvania highway maintenance. He said unless already borrowed sums are repaid by early summer the department cannot sustain even minimal upkeep. He noted $8.34 million borrowed this year and last to be repaid by December 31, 1935, and that the motor fund balance after unpaid bills and recent transfers would leave only about $4.4 million unencumbered. Contracting obligations exceed $5 million.
