New York April 1 Sarah Koten a young Russi nurse goes on trial in the criminal branch of the supreme court for the June murder of Dr Martin Auspitz in the doorway of a Harlem apartment building. She claims the doctor ruined her and that the shooting followed despair over her condition. Her baby born since the shooting is cited as part of the case with the nurse alleging the doctor is the father while she has remained in hospital on Blackwell's Island.
The Loyal Legion of the United States holds its eleventh quadrennial congress in New York on April 14. The meeting aims to revise the order's constitution. Membership includes Civil War officers from the army, navy and marine corps and later commissioned officers. General Grenville M. Dodge is the current commander.
In Jeannette Pennsylvania a brick from a burned Opera House was blown onto a home at Dre A. A. Custard avenue. Mildred Felton 16 was killed while playing the piano and Grace Swift 16, the doctor’s niece, was seriously injured. Swift was found near the plane by rescuers and expected to recover. Felton’s body was found near the door indicating she tried to escape. Also reported, Boyles indicted again in Cleveland on charges of kidnapping and harboring a stolen child. Gary reelected president of the Automobile Club of America.
