Indiana County area firemen face many senseless spring and fall fires caused by people burning brush dry grass rubbish and other combustibles on windy days or near highly flammable vegetation. Fires are started by people and can be stopped by careful behavior. Do not burn unattended use enclosed containers or incinerators with spark screens. If burning is necessary do not leave the fire unattended and expect others to handle the cost of extinguishing. A word to the wise is sufficient and hopeful.

Warm Weather Forecast From Camp Chief’s Word

Chief Tommy Hawk was seen with a burning ember under a thermometer in Indiana County last night in a playful stunt. The forecast calls for a cloudy mild night with thundershowers, lows in the mid to upper 40s. Thursday will bring variable clouds, warmer temperatures, and more showers or thundershowers, highs from the upper 60s to mid 70s.

FBI arrests Cairnbrook man in stolen earth-moving machine case

The FBI says it arrested John J. Balough, 33, of Cairnbrook on interstate transportation of stolen property charges. A warrant was issued in connection with an April 1 theft of an earth-moving machine worth $40,850 from a Virginia work site, according to Tan D. MacLennan.

French urge quick restart of Vietnam peace talks

Paris urged the Vietnam peace conference resume at once to seek a political solution. North Vietnam and Viet Cong demanded a Thursday return and asked Washington to halt bombing. The United States and South Vietnam rejected the demand, saying the Communists were not prepared to negotiate seriously amid the North Vietnamese offensive.
