A $7 million federal loan was sought from Reconstruction Finance Corp as final steps await the Talbot bill’s passage and House concurrence.
Officials report a growing problem of dumping in vacant lots across the borough. Complaints cite promiscuous trashing of items like garbage and rubble near homes. Authorities warn owners will be required to remove debris and move it to proper disposal sites.

George Bernard Shaw, in his New York address at the Metropolitan Opera House, ridiculed the U S Constitution and liberty symbol, calling the statue in New York harbor a monstrous idol with the inscription All hope abandon ye who enter here. A 15 year old Blairsville boy, Charles William Snyder, died in an Indiana hospital at 5 50 a.m. from a bullet wound to the stomach suffered when a small calibre revolver discharged while being handled by companion Joseph Dixon, 15, also of Blairsville. The shooting occurred on Rawson Avenue, and an inquest terming the incident accidental was held by Coroner F. W. St. Clair. Dixon was arrested and held pending the coroner's jury decision.
Blairsville police urged all departments to help locate 1 year old Raymond Short missing since Monday afternoon. He was last seen about 2 30 p.m. Monday boarding a Pennsylvania Railroad freight train heading west. He is four feet six inches, 110 pounds, with black hair and dark eyes, wearing a gray cap blue shirt leather coat and brown trousers.
Jet Houston, a Monongahela riverman and deckhand on the river steamer Collier ett, resigns from his post. He cites discomfort with the sharp edges on the new barrel of seaworn gear as the reason. This unexpected departure becomes news in Charlurot.
Tarentum April 2. Misa Sarah L Moats, 49, crippled in one leg, leaped from the second floor of her home and fractured her sound leg while escaping a fire. Two brothers escaped unhurt. Damage was $6,000.

Naval court of inquiry in Lakourest New Jersey probes Akron crash that killed 78 when the dirigible struck the sea during a storm. Five witnesses testified so far including three survivors Lieut. Commander Herbert V. Wiley and two enlisted men Richard E. Deal and Moody Brewin. Investigators note girders snapped on descent and lightning struck during the 1,600 foot plunge. Cause remains uncertain as proceedings continue.
Mr and Mrs B W Thomas of Marion Center announce the engagement of their daughter Hazel Victoria to J Murray Buterbaugh son of Mr and Mrs J B Buterbaugh Indiana Grant Street 1160. Miss Thomas a Marion Center High School and Butler Business College graduate worked in Streams Gift Shop and Citizens Nations Bank in Indiana. Mr Buterbaugh a graduate of Indiana High School and Dickinson College taught in Salem New Jersey then joined Parnell Cawher Co later opening his own office and becoming local representative for Lycoming Finance and Discount Companies Williamsport Pa.
Beers in snarl as the Buckman committee hears testimony on a two year renewal of the milk investigation. John McConnell from eleven central counties asks for a $100000 appropriation and favors a three member regulation board under state officials. He also pushes restrictions on state workers connected to milk enforcement and cites Ohio milk imports as depressing western Pennsylvania prices.
A County Children's Division Institute tied with Vacation and Weekday Bible Schools and Temperance programs will convene at the Indiana Methodist Episcopal Church on Saturday April 22 with morning and afternoon sessions. Washington April 12 The volume and purpose of foreign debts in the upcoming world economic conferences led by Premier MacDonald remain uncertain. Secretary Hull insists discussions will focus on tariffs stabilization and trade obstacles, while lawmakers question whether June 15 payments of about 150 million dollars can be postponed or handled by broad presidential authority. Enthusiasm runs high for the American Legion staged Minstrel Monarchs at Tulsa Theater on Monday April 24. Director Long from the Rogers Producing Company has the cast rehearsing vigorously, promising a lively, polished performance with an interlocker by Thomas H. Blodie. Ticket sales under chair T W McCullough progress well and indicate a crowded house, featuring an old-time minstrel parade with a band and performers in traditional attire.
James W. Gerard, above, war-tine and assigned to Germany, is expected to be President Roosevelt's next ambassador to Argentina.
Dr. Maitland Alexander today announced the engagement of his daughter Madelaine Alexander to William Alexander Gordon of East Wiliston, Indiana. Gordon previously joined Miss Alexander at Ambridge Theatre in November where a $50,000 pearl necklace was lost or stolen and an extortion attempt for $15,000 was made.
John H. Mills 83, leader of The Tongue cult, was found guilty of murder in Circuit Court here for the February slaying of his 67 year old mother Mrs. Lucinda Mills. He received life imprisonment. Brothers Ballard Mills, 19, and Blaine McGinnis got 21-year terms. Remainder acquitted. The verdict followed 12 hours of deliberation. The cult ritual involved binding Mrs. Mills, placing her on an altar bed, and choking her as members chanted in their cult language. The judge allowed options of wilful murder or manslaughter or insanity verdicts.
Nine years to the day since his undertaking business began in Indiana Mr Bell moves his household furnishings and equipment to Ebensburg and plans to operate from Mineral Vume. In Moscow at October Hall, British and eleven Russian defendants pleaded guilty or not guilty as the trial opened. W A MacDonald admitted guilt while five other Brits urged innocence. Indictments alleged espionage sabotage bribery and counter revolutionary activity against Metropolitan-Vickers in Soviet Russia. The court recessed after pleas were recorded and details remained secret.
A failed attempt to rob Saltsburg's Josep W. Serene Company meat market occurred at 7:30 a.m. Three youths fled in a car toward Blairsville after one held Serene at gunpoint. The weapon jammed, and the suspects escaped. Greensburg Blairsville Indiana police and state troopers issued lookout notices.
