Pittsburgh April 8 Dr Thomas S Baker 90 longtime president emeritus of Carnegie Institute of Technology died after a series of paralytic strokes. He had been in a coma for three days after a third stroke and retired in 1986 after twelve years as Tech president. Survived only by Mary Stockham 90 his aunt burial planned Tuesday in Perriman Maryland family plot. Services set for 3 p m Monday. Baker promoted coal conferences and established a coal research laboratory at Tech and headed the regional labor board in 1933. Born Aberdeen Maryland he studied at Johns Hopkins and the University of Leipzig and taught at his alma mater in Baltimore. He joined Tech in 1919 as secretary and became president in 1923.
