Two people died and another injured when a learner driver lost control on Parkwood bridge. George Kerwin Elder, 48, a nurse at Cresson State Hospital, died instantly after crashing through the railing and plummeting 65 feet to B&I tracks. Lois Madeline Queery, 36, of Altoona, died later at Indiana Hospital from a skull fracture. Queery had been teaching Elder to drive. investigators cited a leftward swerve to avoid the railing.
