Hoover Party Picnic In Shenandoah National Park

Ten Dead in Freakish Storms Across Midwest
Ten people are dead and many injured as freak storms swept six midwestern states after an unusual heat wave. Conrad, lifelong Dilltown resident and former tax assessor, died in an accidental drowning. An inquest ended with his body taken to Dilltown for 2:30 pm funeral services. Interment will follow in the Conrad family cemetery on his uncle's farm, near his birthplace.

Dorothy West aged 11 daughter of Alexander and Sarah Elizabeth Sleigh West died Friday morning at the parental home. She was granddaughter of Mrs. Maude Leigh of Fairfield avenue Johnstown and great granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Jane Hileman of Sheridan street Johnstown. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the West home conducted by Rev. W. R. Carter of Ligonier. Interment in West Fairfield cemetery.

French liner Paris ran aground as a falling tide held the ship fast near the Brooklyn shore. Moran Towing Co. towed in and lanterns lit the scene while fog wind and a storm battered New York. Passengers included John Erskine Arturo Toscanini and Countess A De Piperno. Unloading fuel tanks was considered to lighten the vessel before near high tide due at 3 30 PM. The ship was bound for Plymouth and Lesfayre.
