Libya and Western oil companies reach a five year pact raising posted crude price from 2.55 to 3.45 per barrel. Deputy Premier Abdussalem Jalloud says in principle gains matter more than price. Pact includes retroactivity and local reinvestment goals for long term stability and development.
In Allen County Court Judge W O Hughes presided as 16 year old James H Jackson charged with telephoning a fake bomb threat faced a stern court scene. Jackson's mother, watching, administered a few blows with a paddle at the judge's bench after the question Can you still paddle him. The youth, returning to jail, awaits federal action.
Penn Central Transportation Corp shows a net loss of 66.3 million dollars for January and February 1971, compared with 73.1 million in the same period 1970. Trustees note that 1970 figures reflect a favorable corporate policy at the time. The railway filed for reorganization under the Federal Bankruptcy Act last June and is run by four court appointed trustees under Judge John P. Fullam.
