Edward Bletchley, 47, a dock laborer, is charged with stealing the trophy and remanded on bail.
Pittsburgh district attorney Robert W. Duggan endorsed the state Liquor Control Board drive against teen drinking. He said his office will prosecute those who knowingly sell toxicants to minors. He also backed a tavern association suggestion to require photos on drivers licenses for identification.
Michael Schmidt and Donald Finnegan were recaptured in Stallings West Virginia after fleeing two days earlier by sawing through bars in the jail chapel. They were serving sentences for burglary and auto larceny when the escape occurred.
In Harrisburg AP reports a spokesman for the Constitutional Party claims Pennsylvania conservatives have left the state GOP this year. Edward Swartz of Hammelstown says his party will challenge the Elections Bureau’s ruling that the slate be kept off the November ballot. Swartz notes possible write in plans though voting machines complicate such a campaign. The bureau rejected the party’s nominating petitions for lacking 13,085 signatures to qualify for the general election ballot.
Jews worldwide mark Passover starting at sundown with the seder and matzoh as symbols of liberation from Egypt. The holiday coincides with Easter this year in a rare calendar convergence, while in Moscow authorities ease matzoh supply in improvised bakeries after decades.
Blairsville Joint Schools plan kindergarten registration from 9 am to noon on Friday April 15. All children must be vaccinated with certificates presented at registration or by September. Pittsburgh AP report says Rockwell Manufacturing Co. sees strong sales in the first quarter of 1966 with $48.5 million in sales, up 13.5 percent from 1965. Backlog stands at $37.7 million, the largest in company history, according to vice chairman W F Rockwell Jr.
Harrisburg AP Rep Erwin L Murray a candidate for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination again asks the state auditor general for a detailed breakdown of legislative contingency funds. Auditor Sloan said it lies beyond her dept to track mileage expenses and relies on legislative leaders to judge filings. Murray runs an auto repair shop in Emporium Cameron County.
The House is set to approve a 3.2 percent federal pay raise for 1.8 million workers, with final approval delayed due to the Jewish holy season. The new rates would take effect July 3, at a cost of $593.6 million.
Richard S. Salant was appointed president of CBS News, succeeding Fred Friendly who resigned in February after a dispute over not carrying a live Senate Foreign Relations Committee debate on U.S. Viet Nam policy. Salant joined CBS in 1952 as a vice president and became a director in 1961.

A Youngstown man was acquitted of involuntary manslaughter in the Ben Wells Wells death near Wilkinsburg. He was then sentenced by Visiting Judge Lloyd Weaver to 14 to 36 months in prison and a $200 fine for failing to stop at the scene. Weaver denounced the acquittal as the worst he had heard in 16 years on the bench.
Blairsville relies on Justice of the Peace Paul W. McGillick as Blairsville police report a 19 year old Black Lick man named McAfoos pleaded guilty to purchase possession and transport of alcohol and was fined $50 plus costs after being arrested at 2 50 a m. Curt Hoover 49 of Blairsville faces a reckless driving charge after his vehicle struck a utility pole Friday night causing service disruption and $300 damage. Robert Alexander 20 of Luciusboro is jailed on a malicious injury to property charge for allegedly placing a substance in two Dillon Pallet Co engines to obstruct operation with a hearing set for 7 30 p m Thursday.
In Lorman Mississippi National Guardsmen and state troopers massed around Alcorn A&M College as protests by students and sympathizers continued. About 175 guards arrived after midnight at Port Gibson armory while 180 troopers surround the campus to quell demonstrations that turned violent with tear gas, bricks, rocks and bottles.
The U S space agency announced 19 new astronauts to join a corps of 50, a record group likely to spend up to two years in training before eligible for spaceflight. The class includes 7 Air Force officers, 6 Navy, 2 Marines, and 4 civilians, averaging 32.8 years.
One motorist was slightly injured Monday in three traffic accidents reported by Indiana Borough police. Betty Foltz, 39, of Indiana, was treated at Indiana Hospital after an 7:48 am crash near the North Fifth Street Philadelphia Street intersection. Total damage listed at 350 dollars. Chevrolet, division of General Motors, plans about 3 million dollars of recalls and repairs for 1964 65 model cars with throttles that stick in snow or slush. A splash shield will be installed free to prevent packing around the throttle linkage. No reports of personal injuries were noted in fewer than six incidents.

The Brandeis University dean of students was to be named president of the proposed Allegheny County Community College system. Kermit C. Morrissey, 47, also chairs the Massachusetts Board of Regional Community Colleges, with the first Allegheny campus slated to open in September.
AP reports Judge Henry Ellenbogen of Allegheny County Common Pleas Court urged creation of a county wide computer center at the University of Pittsburgh Law School. He said a shared system would boost efficiency for local governments unable to afford individual data processing facilities.
