Washington April 3 Sale of 51 300 ounces of gold to the Bank of Mexico at a price of 1 800 000 was authorized by the Treasury Department. The gold will be used to build up metallic reserves of the Mexican central bank due to depletion of silver from heavy U S purchases in Mexico. The gold was earmarked in the New York Federal Reserve Bank for Mexican account and may be drawn as needed. This is the second sale of gold by the United States to the Bank of Mexico after a prior sale of 32 000 ounces at 1 120 per ounce.
