County Commissioners choose the Elmer Campbell farm near town as the site for the new County Home. The 180 acre tract is priced at 100 dollars per acre totaling 18 000 dollars. Location favors sanitation and drainage with building planned on the east side of the hill to ease railroad access and material delivery.
Official mileage records show 250.26 miles from Union Station Pittsburg to Broad Street Philadelphia and 431.4 miles to Jersey City for through West Philadelphia trains. Additional splits list Pittsburg to Alcona 114.29, Middle division 126.59, Philadelphia west of Harrisburg 104.11, Philadelphia West to Broad Street 5.27, and New York division 86.41.
J N Langham Esq of this place has been reappointed Corporation Deputy at Harrisburg by Auditor General Robert K Young. The reappointment, effective next Tuesday, reflects Langham’s past experience and qualifications. His first appointment was three years ago while serving in the US Attorney General’s office. The Harrisburg Telegraph defends State Treasurer William H. Berry, stating that capitol investigation testimony largely confirms his claims of extravagance and graft. It notes the investigation was not the proper channel for such concerns but credits Berry with informing the public of the alleged theft in building the capitol.
Workmen began extensive improvements at the Cunningham Company on Philadelphia street. The second story front is removed to install large vanes of glass, and the first story west storefront will be rebuilt with a modern design. The front will be set back ten feet with heavy plate glass displays, and the old front moved to the Tenth and Philadelphia corner store.
Joseph Palmer of Grant township died September 7 1908 and left most of his estate to his wife M M Palmer and granddaughter Pearl Palmer. Register and Recorder Lowry refused to record the will August 28 1906 on grounds of incompetence. About 80 witnesses have been heard, Judge Telford to rule as attorneys for the appealing party and for the proponent present.
The Cosmopolitan Club held its annual banquet in Library Hall last Friday with about 80 guests. Mr and Mrs John Hasting Richard Watson and Miss Grace Cunningham greeted guests at the door. Kettering's orchestra of Greensburg played, followed by dancing and card games until about 2:30 a.m.
A large frame barn belonging to William Gittis in South Mahoning township burned completely early Monday, believed incendiary. A calf and many chickens perished, some machinery scorched, hay and straw burned, rest of livestock escaped. Insurance carried with Pine Creek Insurance Co of Armstrong County. values not learned.
Credible reports accuse timber cutters near Pine Flats of dumping saw dust into Twolick creek. Residents oppose the nuisance as sportsmen and the public work to protect remaining fish and water quality. The county protests have been ignored by those defying the law and public rights.

The Pennsylvania Railroad plans extensive improvements with 158000 tons of steel rails costing 4284000 dollars for 1908 delivery. The order will be split roughly between east and west of Pittsburgh, aimed at replacing worn tracks and expanding lines and branch roads. Officials met with United States Steel representatives to push early rail contracts.
A 15 million dollar mortgage is noted along with a newly filed 16 million dollar lien in the Recorder's office. William H Montgomery and Pearl L Haupt wed at the Haupt residence on Chestnut Street Blairville, with Ruth Reitz playing the wedding march.
A ghoulish discovery in a Sylvester Thompson farm barn in Rayne township revealed a man dead about three days with no signs of violence. Coroner deemed natural causes. remains and burial funded by the township Overseers. Separate inquest found Joseph Bartuccio, 95, dead in Philadelphia with fatal head injury from a barrel end near an outhouse. his clothes and valuables, including two gold watches and bank accounts, were found in a boarding house, with burial in a Catholic cemetery after inquest.
A special train will run from Indiana to Blairsville for the William J. Bryan lecture on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. It will stop at all stations between Indiana and Blairsville. Return departs Blairsville at 11:30 p.m. Round trip fare is 80 cents, admission to the feature 60 cents and 1.00.
