British Defeat Seizes Methuen at Dawn Engagement
General Methuen and four guns were captured by General DeLarey near Windburg between Windburg and Lichtenburg on March 10. The British loss included 38 killed, 72 wounded Irish officers, one officer and 200 men missing, and 1,200 troops were engaged. Methuen wounded in thigh and held prisoner, baggage captured.

Judge Agnew Dead Whose death in Beaver noted
Judge Daniel Agnew died at his Beaver home Sunday at 2 45 am. A famed Pennsylvania jurist he served 13 years in lower courts and 15 on the supreme bench. Born January 5 1809 in Trenton New Jersey he was the oldest living graduate of the Western University of Pennsylvania at his death.

Butler Farmer Murdered by Burglars in County
Henry Smith an aged farmer and a well known local figure was killed by three burglars who entered his home during a tenant's visit to pay twenty dollars rent. Mrs Smith, bound and gagged, witnessed the murder. The couple had celebrated their golden wedding two years earlier and the widow's health remains desperate as she recalls the horror. Deceased was father to JH Smith and H B Smith of L H Smith Wood and Willowware Co. in Pittsburg.

Struck by a Train in Vintondale Fatality
John Burke a long time Pine township resident was killed Monday afternoon crossing the railroad near Vintondale. An engine of the Wintondale Lumber Company struck his buggy throwing him from the vehicle. The horse escaped unharmed. Burke, about 75, leaves a wife three sons John James and Ambrose and three daughters Mrs George Kerr Mrs John Cresswell and Rose Burke. The funeral is today at Cameron's Bottom Catholic cemetery.

John Wagner a Washington Inp citizen was placed in Dixmont last Friday by township overseers after a disturbance at Willet Lutheran services. He broke into the Willet Lutheran church, tore up the Bible and damaged furniture and chandeliers until restrained by eight men nearby. He had recently attended revival services at the Willet Methodist church.
