Fire destroys old Redding store at Smicksburg
Early Saturday morning a fire completely destroyed the Smilcka burg store formerly owned by George Redding and recently sold to Ralph Morrison of Punxsutawney. Firefighters fought the blaze as two nearby residences were threatened, with losses estimated around 2000 dollars. A separate hearing before Justice James A. Crossman found Clarence Carney of town held for court on assault and battery charges from an incident at the Owls lodge on July 18.

Thieves Break In Cigar Store in New Florence
Thieves pried open a rear window at J. D. Hiddie's cigar store in New Florence and stole about $30 worth of tobacco and cigars on Wednesday night last. A second break caused damage at Wilson Drug Store when a window was broken. Dr. Tittle alerted by the noise scared the burglars away.

Barn Destroyed by Fire Near Cherrytree
A large 60 by 60 foot barn on the Tonkin estate near Cherrytree burned to the ground Tuesday evening. The structure contained this season’s crops and farming gear. a team of matched grays valued at $600 perished. Estimated loss is $46,000 with half insured by Thompson agency. Ord Tonkin, returning from the fields, spotted flames and returned to find the barn a mass of fire. Cherry Tree Fire Department arrived too late to save the building and focused on nearby structures.

Man kills wife in Wickborough home with revolver

Accidents of the Week on Indiana Roads
A string of crashes on Indiana roads last week injured several people. Ross Coleman Joseph Ostermier and Charles Phillips were hurt when a buggy overturned on Philadelphia Street near BP Rinn residence after a fast passer collided. Ostermier suffered a near ear loss and deep cuts, Coleman had uncarcerated near injuries and Phillips cut hands. Sunday near camp grounds Hite Long's surrey toppled after horses spooked by a passing train injuring Mrs Long with arm sprain and cuts. Charles Nichol narrowly escaped serious injury crossing a bridge when an auto struck the survey and the bridge. Nichol credits Mr Nichols as pivotal to avoid falling into the creek. A Daugherty auto collided with weeds near Cummins farm on the Wollick road, overturning over a stump injuring none seriously though wrecking the car.
