Jacksonville to receive four mile railroad extension
Bids close today for a four mile extension of the Buffalo Rochester and Pittsburgh railroad into Jacksonville Indiana county. The project will pass through and beyond Jacksonville tapping a major coal vein and is expected to boost tonnage through Punxsutawney. Construction will start soon after award and will be rushed to complete the line, the town of Jacksonville celebrating its 55th year as the first railroad to disturb its quietness.

Bought Farm Near Coral by William Appleton
William Appleton of Burrell township purchased a 132 acre farm near Coral in Center township from Hy D English for 96 125. The property includes a large dwelling and a fire barn 60 by 70 feet. The coal was sold several years ago. Appleton, now at Libengwood farm, plans to move around March 15.

Fatally Injured by Kick of a Horse
Joseph Galos, 13, son of Mr and Mrs Mike Galos, was kicked in the stomach by a frightened horse on Tuesday afternoon while in a hay mow over the stall. He fell through a hole in the floor, the horse kicked him, and he died the same day at Dixonville hospital. The remains were brought to Tanana on Thursday, with services at the Catholic Church and burial at St Bernard's Cemetery.

At the Rural Letters Carriers Association meeting in the Court House last Thursday the officers were elected. A W Kine horn was named president with Alex Malcolm vice president S D Barr secretary and L M Piper treasurer David Rittenhouse of Rochester Mills was chosen delegate to the State convention. Topics included prospects for a brighter future and recruiting more carriers to join the association. The Indiana group condemned Executive Order No 1451 restricting political activity. The summer convention will be held in Indiana as a picnic for carriers their wives and friends.

Combined districts include Indiana Jefferson Armstrong and Clearfield counties with 14 percent mines and 102 in operation. Total inside workers 14 078 plus outside workers 2 527. Tons produced total 12 883 5d7 with Indiana 6 007 162 and the twenty fifth district 6 276 995. Cake production 528428 tons. Rossiter mines by Clearfield Coal Corporation produced over 700000 tons employing about 540. Indiana county tonnage may reach 10 900 000 to 12 600 000. The Y M C A project in Indiana received a contract at a Wednesday meeting, awarded to A M Lockard for 5060, with bids up to 57000. The three story brick building will rise at Philadelphia and Ninth streets on a site purchased from the Pennsylvania Railroad for 10000. The drive secured over 50 members under organizer C I Cooh of New Castle and a rapid campaign aimed to raise 50000 for the project. Despite site and funding hurdles, bids were finalized and plans sent back, with construction to begin when weather allows. The structure will include rental rooms on the third floor and furnish about 7000 toward finishing after completion.
