Freeman Wilkinson owner of the Union House Blairsville has given a long contract to H W Ferguson & Sop to repair and reconstruct the building. A new front will be added the house and the office enlarged with a rear addition. Bathrooms will be added and the plumbing overhauled. The house will be put in first class condition and opened around the first of May.

Mt Pleasant Coke Company, a Greensburg firm, concluded negotiations to purchase 235 acres of Connellville coal land two miles southwest of Latrobe from St Xavier Academy in Unity township Westmoreland County. The price reportedly 1200 per acre totaling over 250000. The sale, largest remaining Connellsville coal body, includes plans for four hundred coke ovens with construction expected in early spring. The academy is run by the Sisters of Charity and its future relation to the sale is unclear.

The operation found a cancerous growth involving the bowels fully, so removal was not attempted. He will be brought home at the earliest opportunity.
