Livery Barn Burned at Lovejoy Town
Fire destroyed the large livery barn of Robert Buterbaugh at Lovejoy around 1 am Tuesday. Flames spread quickly. horses were saved but one was fatally injured and shot. Four horses died in the blaze. all other contents were destroyed. Loss is heavy, insured for $300.

Man Crushed by Falling Tree Near Barnesboro
William Keith of Grip was killed Friday February 3 when a tree fell on him while cutting mine props for the Cambria mine near Barnesboro. He died at his Barnesboro boarding house and burial followed at McDowell cemetery after services by Rev. Armstrong. Survived by his father and four brothers and two sisters.

Judge Telford issued an order merging five Montgomery township districts into one and designating Arcadia as the voting place. Election officers from the previous split districts were dismissed, replaced by the former officers for the unified district, following a petition from a majority of township voters to dissolve the two districts.
Local Masons Banquet in Odd Fellows Hall
The Indiana Lodge of Masons hosted its annual banquet Friday evening in Odd Fellows Hall. About fifty couples attended. guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Daugherty, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Christy, and Dr. L. B. Buterhaugh and his sisters. After a hearty meal, the evening featured cards and dancing with Apple’s Orchestra providing music. no toasts were offered.

Dr Frank Cowan died at his country home near Greensburg on Sunday afternoon. Born December 11, 1844 in Greensburg, he was son of Senator Edgar Cowan. He practiced law, became a physician, lecturer, poet and editor, and once claimed to be first white man in Korea. He joked about burial in a Viking fire boat but was interred in a standard casket.
