100 Bushels of Corn Per Acre in 1915 Secret Contest
Walter Broyles, the sole 1915 Hundred Bushel Corn Club member, reports a black loam field with bluegrass, planted May 12 and harvested October 98, yielding 100 bushels per acre with Fung’s Yellow Dent and four cultivations. Other entries from Delaware, Gibson, and Johnson counties show yields from 85 to 95.9 bushels per acre with varied soils, seeds, and fertilization.
