County forms pay study unit to advise on salaries
From Our L A Bureau supervisors approve a 10 member committee to study salary trends in city government and the impact of county wage increases on smaller cities. Chairman Warren Dorn urges early start and reporting by March next year to aid bargaining with employee groups. The move follows complaints over 11 percent raises for county firemen and sheriff's deputies and aims to better assess prevailing wages. Last year the board approved about 40 million in pay raises for roughly 70,000 employees.
