Last Skylab fish die after splashdown
The last four mummichog minnows from Skylab 2 died en route home in a shipment from San Diego to Houston. Johnson Space Center veterinarian Dr. Richard Simmonds said the fish were alive after splashdown but died when the package was opened in Houston, blamed on being long without food during the voyage. The eggs and fingerlings hatched aboard Skylab, but most perished during the mission.
