Russian Scientists Set for Cuba Fishing Base in Havana Bay
Soviet fisheries minister Ishkoy said a 12 million ton base would be completed in 1963 to serve fishing boats in the Atlantic northwest. More scientific ships would arrive, with plans to ship 2000 tons of cod this year and 15000 tons of fish in 198. Tass described a port large enough for 1130 vessels with mooring, refrigeration, repair facilities, an air base and radio stations. The port’s location was to be Havana Bay amid naval installations, with earlier guesses placing it in Banes or Oriente Province.
