Navy to Launch Six-Inch Moon Like Satellite This Year
The Navy outlines plans for a six inch Vanguard style device, a tiny moon shaped transmitter and a test program to launch a 21 pound sphere to 800 miles altitude. Cmdr L A Kurtz announced TV2 and TV3 tests, with Vanguard satellites to orbit Earth next year. Two Vanguard tests have already flown, testing telemetering and firing-range procedures.

First Matador flight from New Mexico to Utah a success
Air Force authorities announced the first Matador guided missile flight from Alamogordo New Mexico to Wendover Utah. Maj Gen L I Davis and Lt Col O W Baron led jet escorts while Maj Mahlon Steiner and Capt Edward Moore piloted the F100 jets. Similar flights are planned periodically.

Airman Drowned as Tractor Backed Off Flight Deck
The Navy reported a sailor missing and presumed drowned after a tractor rolled off the Boxer flight deck at sea about 63 miles northwest of San Diego. Airman Gerald Frederick Schutz of Beeville Texas is identified as the deceased, survived by his widow Josephine Carmen Schutz. The Boxer was en route back to port.

Parks Convention Tudge Dons Bonnet Landed by L B
Long Beach named as 1960 convention city by the American Institute of Park Executives at Minneapolis.
