Medi Cal gets cautious OK by watchdogs
SACRAMENTO AP California's 2.6 billion Medi-Cal program earned a cautiously positive review from the Little Hoover Commission. The panel said the program appears headed toward improved health care and greater economy, while urging tighter management and stronger anti fraud measures to save 300 to 450 million dollars. The report cites rising costs and supporters note about 2.9 million residents are eligible with about half enrolled at any time. The panel follows earlier criticisms of department management and notes potential reforms, including a proposal to split the Health Department into five parts but keep Medi Cal and public health together.
