Rafferty still seeks Kuchel endorsement in race

Max Rafferty disclosed he is continuing to seek the endorsement of U.S. Sen. Thomas Kuchel in the November election. He said he sent a telegram to Kuchel and has not yet received a reply. Rafferty defeated Kuchel in June for the GOP nomination. At a news conference he also urged use of American capital to solve poverty and disorder. Mayor Yorty praised Humphrey but would not commit to a presidential candidate, dismissing reports of a guaranteed White House appointment. He urged campaigns to stay mainstream and warned against extremists and third party influence.
