Drivers in the Long Beach Grand Prix must qualify twice as in all Formula 5000 races this year. The field of 49 cars will have two time trial sessions on Saturday to set starting order for two 12-lap heats on Sunday and the final 10-mile feature race at 4 45 p.m. Sunday.
